BI nabs convicted British sex offender

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has apprehended a male British “registered sex offender” in San Fernando, Cebu after Philippine authorities discovered that he was a convicted felon in the United Kingdom.

In a spot report on Friday, BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) operatives arrested Leslie Charles Russon, 52, who was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for indecent assault on under-aged boys.

The BI FSU’s report disclosed that Russon was arrested in an operation at Sitio Campaog, Barangay Pitalo in San Fernando, Cebu on Thursday, February 15, for “posing risk to public safety and security, being a fugitive from justice.”

The arrest was made following a tip from Stephanie McCourt, International Liaison Officer of the British National Crime Agency (NCA), the report bared.

“Russon is a convicted Registered Sex Offender wanted by the UK Police for violation of the UK Sexual Offences ACT of 1997,” the spot report said, adding that he was also placed in the UK’s Sex Offender Registry.

“Subject will be flown on the next available flight for Manila for his subsequent commitment to BI Warden Facility,” it added. /jpv
