MANILA, Philippines -- President Benigno Aquino has announced he is postponing his trips to Indonesia and Vietnam originally scheduled within September.
But the President said on Tuesday he was keeping his schedule to go to the United States within September, his first trip abroad as the country's leader.
Mr. Aquino told reporters that Indonesia could only accommodate him ?sometime in October? and that the Palace has been ?working on that.?
In the case of Vietnam, he said he would be going there anyway to attend the leaders? summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in October.
?In keeping with our promise to be more judicious on the way we spend the people's money, especially with the fact we had very little left, I felt it was more prudent to have one trip than two,? President Aquino said.
Mr. Aquino said he might meet US President Barack Obama at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York late this month.
