No Filipinos among 41 new confirmed cases of 2019-nCoV in Japan cruise ship – DFA

MANILA, Philippines — The 41 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) among those aboard a cruise ship docked at the Yokohama Port in Japan do not include any Filipinos, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

“The Japanese Ministry of Health said another group of 41 people on board the Diamond Princess tested positive for nCoV,” the DFA said in a statement on Friday.

These new confirmed cases include 21 Japanese nationals and 20 foreigners.

“No Filipinos are included in this group of 41,” it added.

A Filipino crew member was among the first 10 individuals who tested positive for the virus.

The DFA said the Filipino “is now in hospital undergoing treatment.”

The DFA noted that the Japan Health Ministry confirmed in a press briefing that all 273 suspected cases aboard the ship have already been tested.

“The Ministry also stated that the ship will remain under the mandatory 14-day quarantine period until February 19,” the DFA added.

The DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo is working with both the Philippine and Japanese government agencies to provide assistance to all Filipinos onboard the cruise ship.
