OWWA denies giving money to OFWs at airports

/ 09:31 PM May 06, 2019

MANILA, Philippines — The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) denied on Monday claims that they are giving returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) cash upon their arrival at airports in the country.

In an advisory, OWWA said a Facebook post claimed that OWWA has a program that gives cash to OFWs who arrived in the country.

OWWA, however, said the post was fake and that they do not have a program that simply gives OFWs money in airports.

Another netizen asked OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac regarding the post and said that OFWs will receive P20,000 upon their arrival and an additional P12,000 if they decide to stay in the country for good.

“Hindi po toton ang kumakalat na balita. Hindi po lahat ng nasa Facebook ay dapat paniwalaan. Maging matalino po,” Cacdac said in a tweet.

OWWA advised the public to contact their office or social media accounts to avail of the agency’s programs.
