MANILA, Philippines – The Ministry of Tourism in Maldives will shoulder the repatriation of remains of the Filipino newlywed couple, who drowned during their honeymoon, an official of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Wednesday.

DFA Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato said on Twitter that the Philippine Embassy in Dhaka informed the Department that Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism will take care of the cost of the repatriation of the couple.

“Sir @teddyboylocsin, Dhaka PE has just informed @DFAPHL that the Ministry of Tourism of the Maldives has conveyed to the #Philippines Honorary Consulate in Male that it would take care of the cost of bringing Leomer and Erika home,” Cato wrote.
