DMW: Filipina dies in UAE fire; 10 OFWs, 2 children injured
MANILA, Philippines — One Dubai-based Filipina died while 10 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and two children were injured following a fire that hit a 39-storey residential building in the United Arab Emirates’ Sharjah district on April 4, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Wednesday.
Citing a report from its Migrant Workers Office in Dubai, DMW said the 10 OFWs and two children are now “recovering at a local hotel arranged for them by Sharjah local government officials.”
Local media reported that a fire broke out at a high-rise residential building in Al Nahda on Thursday night, leading to the death of five people.
“MWO-Dubai is working for the repatriation of the remains of the Filipina who died in the fire. Her husband, who was among those injured, was discharged from hospital yesterday and is recuperating from his injuries at the residence unit of a family friend,” said DMW.
In the same statement, the agency said DMW Officer in Charge Hans Cacdac spoke via phone call with the husband and family of the Filipina who died.
