Meco hails Taiwanese firm for aiding ailing Filipina worker
MANILA, Philippines — Taiwan’s Epistar Corporation earned praises from the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (Meco) for its continued assistance to an ailing Filipino worker.
In a statement on Wednesday, Meco Chairperson Silvestre Bello III said Epistar Corporation extended what he called “extraordinary humanitarian deeds” to Silieta Baguio — a Filipina who has been suffering from severe lung disease since December 2022 and stopped working in April last year.
“We truly appreciate Epistar’s very good example in helping our kababayan in distress. Its deeds are really inspiring,” Bello said, adding that while Baguio could no longer physically continue with her work because of her medical condition, her employer paid her full salaries until her employment contract ended in September last year.
