MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has obtained an “added boost” of commitment from Vietnam in the areas of food security, climate change, and regional defense and security following the meeting of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. with visiting Vietnamese National Assembly Chair Vuong Dinh Hue in Malacañang on Wednesday.
Vuong also expressed hope to “enhance the partnership” between the two countries’ legislatures.
“We are hopeful that we can do more to enhance the relationships between our political parties and government-to-government and parliament-to-parliament relationships, and most importantly, the people-to-people exchanges,” the Vietnamese official said.
Marcos said he was “a little surprised that 16, 18 years have transpired since the exchange of visits between our two legislatures — that is much too long for such close neighbors.”
The president met Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Thailand last week and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Cambodia.
