MANILA, Philippines — Taiwan on Wednesday donated 200,000 US dollars (P11.13 million) to help the province of Abra recover, following a magnitude 7.0 earthquake.
According to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines, TECO Representative Peiyung Hsu donated US$ 200,000 to the Republic of the Philippines during a handover ceremony.
TECO said the donation was given to assist the people affected by the recent earthquake in northern Luzon.
“Taiwan stands by the Philippines and sincerely hopes that the damaged homes will be soon restored and the victims return to their normal lives as early as possible,” TECO said.
“Taiwan will continue to collaborate with the Philippines on disaster prevention and climate resilience,” it added.
Silvestre Bello III, Chairman and Resident Representative of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, accepted the donation on behalf of the Philippine government.
Abra Governor Dominic Valera was also present during the ceremony.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council earlier reported that over 500,000 individuals have been affected by the earthquake, with over P1.8 billion worth of damage to infrastructure.
