Unsinkable Harvest Robinsons La Union ArtAblado

The ribbon cutting ceremony led by (L-R) Unsinkable Harvest Project Director- Abegail Lazaro, Tsinelas Founder & Featured Artist Alger Guevarra and Robinsons Place La Union Regional Operations Manager, Helen S. Vallo.

Robinsons Land’s ArtAblado has conquered the art scene of La Union as it recently lent support to Alger Guevarra, a La Union based visual artist and environmentalist who recently mounted  his Tsinelas Art Exhibit  series dubbed as “Unsinkable Harvest”.  The exhibit is currently running at the 3rd level of Robinsons Place La Union until December 19.

Guevarra’s  method of producing art is unconventional since he recycles used flip flops by grinding these into powder and mixes in glue to produce a paint mixture.

From (L-R): Tarong, Saluyot, Sabunganay, Panggisa, Okra

“Unsinkable Harvest” highlights Guevarra’s 18 lifelike artworks of vegetables, grown by farmers of the region.  For this series, the Artist applied an augmented minimalist approach by using recycled slippers and mats as medium. Inspired by environmental conservation initiatives, Guevarra together with the exhibit organizers, aims to create more awareness on the recycling and food sustainability.

Guevarra is encouraging artists like him to keep on creating artworks, regardless of any challenges or criticisms they face.

Robinsons Place La Union remains steadfast in supporting and promoting La Union’s tourism, environment, culture, tradition and people. Unsinkable exhibit is open Mondays to Sundays from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
