MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has extended the travel restrictions it imposed on inbound travelers from India and six other countries until July 15 to prevent the entry of the COVID-19 Delta variant, Malacañang said Tuesday.

The travel ban covers India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

“Yung travel ban ay na-extend po until July 15,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in an interview over state-run People’s Television Network.

(The travel ban was extended until July 15.)

The travel restrictions were supposed to lapse on Wednesday, June 30.

Travel restrictions were earlier imposed to prevent the entry of the COVID-19 Delta variant first detected in India, said to be more transmissible.

A total of 17 Delta variant cases have so far been detected in the Philippines.
