Trudeau pushes for women empowerment at Makati forum
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau highlighted the importance of empowering women to contribute in a country’s economic success as he met with the participants of the Canada-funded program for Filipino women on Monday.
Trudeau graced the forum tackling the challenges and the gains of those who took part in the Canadian government’s Gender responsive economic actions for the transformation of women (GREAT) program in the Philippines in Makati City.
Trudeau, known for advocating feminism, said that “empowering women to become successful does not only drive economic success but it leads to compound effects” like improving the “entire economy of the country.”
Trudeau explained that the Canadian government uses a “feminist international development lens” when they invest in different countries.
“We are looking specifically at the most vulnerable, we are looking at empowering women,” he said.
After the forum, Trudeau shared a light moment with the audience and went on a kissing spree with the guests who approached him, including the male ones.
After each guest got a kiss from the charismatic Canadian leader, they cheered as Trudeau left the hall.
Trudeau is in Manila to attend the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit and related meetings. Trudeau will take part in the Canada-Asean Commemorative Summit to review relations between Canada and the 10 Asean member countries. /je
