Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau highlighted the importance of empowering women to contribute in a country’s economic success as he met with the participants of the Canada-funded program for Filipino women on Monday.
Trudeau graced the forum tackling the challenges and the gains of those who took part in the Canadian government’s Gender responsive economic actions for the transformation of women (GREAT) program in the Philippines in Makati City.
Trudeau, known for advocating feminism, said that “empowering women to become successful does not only drive economic success but it leads to compound effects” like improving the “entire economy of the country.”
Trudeau explained that the Canadian government uses a “feminist international development lens” when they invest in different countries.
“We are looking specifically at the most vulnerable, we are looking at empowering women,” he said.
