UK advisory: Skip Mindanao, Britons warned
The United Kingdom (UK) advised its citizens on Saturday to steer clear of the western and central parts of Mindanao, particularly Marawi City, and to limit any trips to the region to essential travel.
It also mentioned lack of clarity on the implications of the declaration of martial law in Mindanao.
According to the advisory, “The Foreign and Commonwealth Office continues to advise against all travel to western and parts of central Mindanao including Marawi City; and against all but essential travel to the remainder of Mindanao.”
For citizens already in Marawi City, they were told to stay indoors, monitor the news and follow the advice of Philippine authorities in light of clashes between government forces and militants.
The UK advisory pointed out, “If you don’t have essential reason to travel to the remainder of Mindanao, you should consider the implications of martial law and consider reviewing your plans whilst it is in place.”
