No bail for American cocaine carrier caught at Clark
CLARK FREEPORT — American national Allan Soo Hoo, who was arrested for carrying cocaine into the Clark International Airport (CRK), was not allowed to post bail on Tuesday (Aug. 30) after he was charged with drug trafficking by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Trafficking drugs is a non-bailable offense with a fine of P500,000 to P10 million.
CRK personnel discovered 2.4 kilograms of cocaine in Hoo’s trolley bag when it went under an X-ray machine at the Customs clearance area on Sunday (Aug. 28)
The contraband, tested and confirmed by the PDEA as cocaine, has a street value of up to P18 million.
Hoo, who is of Chinese descent, took Emirates flight EK 338 from Dubai and disembarked at CRK on Sunday night.
The 68-year-old New Yorker has been detained in Angeles City. PDEA sought to keep Hoo under its custody in the agency’s regional police headquarters in Camp Olivas.
Alexander Cauguiran, officer-in-charge of the state-owned Clark International Airport Corp. has put CRK personnel on extra-alert to prevent similar attempt to bring in cocaine. SFM
