The authorities have launched a search-and-rescue operation for the crew of the Panamanian-flagged cargo vessel MV Fortune Life, that reportedly sank in the waters off Vigan City on Friday.

As of Saturday afternoon, eight of the 19 crew members had been rescued, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

A report from the PCG said the cargo vessel was loaded with 7,500 metric tons of feldspar when it sank some 130 nautical miles west of Vigan City.

The cargo vessel left Kaohsiung port in Taiwan and was headed for Kuching, Sarawak, in Malaysia when the incident happened. Tina G. Santos
