What Aquino wrote in book of condolences for Lee Kuan Yew
President Benigno Aquino III on Friday afternoon visited the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Manila to extend his condolences to the nation after the death of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.
After giving a short prayer, the President signed the book of condolences.
He wrote, “I, along with the Filipino people, stand in solidarity with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and the people of Singapore in this time of grieving, as we all honor Lee Kuan Yew, whose steady and efficient leadership and whose bold vision transformed Singapore into the city-state that it is today.”
Malacañang earlier released a statement on the passing of the founding father of Singapore, lauding Lee for his “unswerving devotion to his country.”
Aquino or Vice President Jejomar Binay, however, will not attend the funeral for Lee. Instead, Senate President Franklin Drilon will attend the state funeral on March 29 at the Singapore University Cultural Center. AU
