Simbang Gabi schedules – SF Bay Area; Austin, Texas; Los Angeles

Simbang_gabiDALY CITY, California – Simbang Gabi or Dawn Mass, a Christmas novena tradition in the Philippines, is now being celebrated in many Filipino-American communities in the United States. Although a few Masses are held in early morning, most Simbang Gabi Masses in the US are held in the evening, as a matter of convenience. The following are the schedules in San Francisco Bay Area; Austin, Texas; Los Angeles.

San Francisco Bay Area, California

San Francisco County: In San Francisco, which has 91 parishes, there are 34 parishes listed where Simbang Gabi is held. However, 11 additional parishes collaborate with those holding the Mass, bringing the total to 45 parishes engaged in organizing Simbang Gabi. In 2006 when the first count was made, there were 16 parishes with Simbang Gabi Masses.

Los Angeles, California:

The Filipino Ministry of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will celebrate the Archdiocesan  Simbang Gabi sponsored by San Gabriel Region.  Archbishop Jose’ H. Gomez will be the principal celebrant. The highlight will be the Procession of Parol lanterns of churches and organizations from Los Angeles, which will take place prior to liturgy.

Everyone is invited to attend and witness the coming together of all Filipinos as they celebrate one of the most important faith traditions in the Philippines. All parol lanterns will be blessed at the end of the Mass. This year’s theme: “Come Jesus, Fill Us with Your Mercy and Compassion” (Halina Hesus, Puspusin Mo Kami Ng Iyong Awa at Habag).
