Book Jacket - Claiming Our StoriesSAN FRANCISCO — An anthology of contemporary Filipino American writers’ personal insights on San Francisco’s rich cultural history and the contributions of Filipinos is now available at a world-famous San Francisco bookstore in time for Thanksgiving and the start of the holiday season.

Claiming Our Stories, published by The Alvarado Project, is available at City Lights, an official San Francisco historic landmark located at 261 Columbus Avenue in the bustling North Beach District of San Francisco, a prime tourist destination best known for its historic places of interest, Little Italy, and a 1950s Beatnik legacy.

The Alvarado Project published the first edition of the book as a fitting companion to a crossover exhibit of original artwork and historical photographs by Ricardo Ocreto Alvarado, “Compositions: A Filipino American Experience,” at the San Francisco Main Library’s 6th floor Skylight Gallery through December 7.

Janet Alvarado, curator of The Alvarado Project, says, “What an honor for my father, ‘Manong Ricardo.’ Claiming Our Stories showcases some of his unique historical photographs and various contributors’ intergenerational stories about the earlier roots of Filipino American life in our San Francisco neighborhoods.”

Copies of Claiming Our Stories are in the People’s History and San Francisco/Left Coast Sections of City Lights Bookstore. “City Lights has become world-famous, but it has retained an intimate, casual, anarchic charm. It’s a completely unique San Francisco experience, and a must for anyone who appreciates good books,” the store’s website proudly states.

The Alvarado Project, is planning its next edition of Claiming Our Stories. For more information go to http://www.thealvaradoproject.com/
