MANILA, Philippines—One Filipino has been sentenced to death while two other were given life sentence for espionage and economic sabotage in Qatar, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Friday.

“A Filipino was sentenced to death last April 30 by a Qatari court for espionage and economic sabotage while two others were sentenced life imprisonment for the same offense,” DFA Spokesman Charles Jose said in a press briefing.

“A lawyer assisted them throughout the lower court proceedings and the verdict was appealed before Qatar’s court of appeals last May 4,” he said.
