European ambassadors visit Mindanao in support of peace process
COTABATO CITY, Philippines—A group of European ambassadors arrived in this city on Friday to pledge their support to the peace process in Mindanao.
The group, led by European Union Ambassador Guy Ledoux, will meet with leaders of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), officials of the ARMM and other stakeholders. They will also check the implementation of EU-funded projects in the area.
“Our visit to Mindanao demonstrates the EU’s continuous support for the Mindanao peace process and development in the region. After the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) and the completion of the draft of the Basic law a peaceful transition in Mindanao is essential for the Philippines’ economic and social development, and we commend the GPH and MILF panels on their efforts”, European Union Ambassador Guy Ledoux said.
In attendance were Ambassadors Thomas Ossowski of Germany, Massimo Roscigno of Italy, Josef Muellner of Austria, and Roland Van Remoortele of Belgium.
Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the United Kingdom Embassy Trevor Lewis and Romania Embassy Mihai Sion, deputy Ambassadors of France Hugues-Antoine Suin and of Czech Republic Jan Vytopil, and Senior Program Manager of General of Spanish Cooperation in the Philippines Carlos Gallego were part of the delegation.
