NEW YORK?After a morning of meetings in his room at the Sofitel hotel here Thursday morning, President Benigno Aquino and his entourage took a break for lunch? hotdogs on a New York sidewalk at a total cost of $54.

Aquino, his US Secret Service detail, his Filipino guards, some officials, his defeated running-mate in last May?s elections, former senator Manuel Roxas II, and reporters covering his US visit partook of the sandwiches at the corner of Sixth Avenue and West 45th Street.

Aquino had his hotdog with catsup and onions, and a bottle of soda.

?Normally, my lunch is sandwich and soup,? said Aquino, New York-style hotdog in hand.

Told that he was causing quite a scene with all the suited men around him and TV cameras documenting every bite as he devoured his sandwich, Aquino he was not going to stay out much longer anyway.

?I should be out of here in a little while,? he said, apparently with some concern for the stress he was causing his Secret Service escorts.

?But (eating hotdogs is) actually one of the things you look forward to when you come to New York,? he added.
