MANILA, Philippines — The Embassy of Denmark in the Philippines and the Philippine Embassy in Spain have praised homegrown Filipino tennis star Alex Eala.
In a Facebook post on March 28, the Danish Embassy highlighted the unifying power of sports amid global challenges.
“There’s a lot going on in the world right now. While it’s important to stay informed, it’s also okay to take a step back and focus on the things that bring us together—like sports,” the post read.
The embassy described Eala as one of the athletes who inspire the public through their dedication and journey.

“At just 19, she [Eala] became the first Filipino tennis player to reach the semi-finals of a WTA 1000 tournament, taking down world No. 2 Iga Swiatek and No. 5 Madison Keys in the process. An incredible run that deserves to be celebrated — not just for the wins, but for what it represents,” it also said.
The Filipina tennis player, ranked 140th in the world and a wild-card entry in the event, earned $332,160, or around P19 million, in prize money. She is expected to break into the Top 100 of the WTA rankings on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy in Spain also praised Eala for defeating Swiatek in straight sets last March 26.
