MANILA, Philippines?Special envoys will no longer be referred as ambassadors.
President Aquino announced on Wednesday that he approved last August 25 Executive Order 5 making it clear that an appointed or designated special envoy cannot use the title ambassador.
The executive order amended Executive Order 594 dated December 20, 2006, which provides the rules governing the appointment, designation, and conduct of special envoys.
The order said the amendment was in keeping with Republic Act. 7157 or the Philippine Foreign Service Act of 1991, ?which states that only Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary may carry this title.'?
It was signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa.
