MANILA, Philippines — No Filipinos were harmed in two recent earthquakes that hit Taiwan, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Saturday.

It added, however, the Migrant Workers Offices in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung continued to be on alert and monitoring the situation in case of reports of overseas Filipino workers injured or affected by the quakes

On Saturday, Taiwan was struck by two earthquakes early morning, the first had a magnitude of 6.1, and the second had a magnitude of 5.8.

“In coordination with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) led by Chairman Silvestre H. Bello III, DMW MWOs and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) officers and personnel are working with Filipino communities and leaders, local authorities, and employers to ascertain the safety and status of OFWs,” the DMW added.
