MANILA, Philippines -- A Filipina died while two others survived the fire that struck a hotel in Iraq Friday, a spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said, quoting a report from the Philippine Embassy in Baghdad.
Joshua R. Ermitano is recuperating at a hospital from a broken leg. Richie Salceda was discharged from the hospital Friday, J. Eduardo Malaya said in a text message to the INQUIRER.net.
But the name of the fatality was withheld pending notification to her family here, said Malaya, adding that the Filipina was an employee of the Asiacell Mobile Company based in Sulaimania, Kurdistan Region Governorate in Iraq.
Malaya said the Filipinos were at the Hotel SOMA in Sulaimania City when the fire, which started at a nearby furniture shop, occurred.
The Embassy is being assisted by a Filipino volunteer based in the nearby city of Erbil, and is coordinating with the employers of the victims, Malaya said.
