“I condemn this deliberate assault in the strongest possible terms. There is no justification for targeting peaceful festival goers, and those responsible must be held fully accountable under Canadian law,” Duterte said in a statement.
Duterte expressed thanks to the Canadian Government, the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, and the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver for ensuring that Filipinos affected by the incident receive assistance.
The horrific accident occurred on Saturday when a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old driver plowed into the crowd, killing 11 people between the ages of 5 and 65, near East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street, where the Lapulapu Day Block Party was being held.
