MANILA, Philippines?Three Filipino journalists working in United Arab Emirates newspapers received awards at the closing ceremonies of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) held at the One and Only Royal Mirage Mall last February 28, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.
Citing the report of the Philippine consulate general in Dubai, the DFA named the awardees as Khaleej Times' Lily B. Liboon for Best Prolific Writer Award, Gulf News' Cleofe Maceda for Best Local Feature Award, and photojournalist Hadrian Hernandez, also of Gulf News, for DSF Shopping Category Award.
The awards were given by the Director General of Dubai Information Shiek Hasher Bin Maktoum.
Since the launch of the DSF, Liboon has written 15 stories on the various events and entertainment during the Festival, including the Global Village (trade fair) in Dubailand.
Aimed at attracting tourists to Dubai and generating income for shopping malls and retailers, the DSF is a yearly 32-day event where shoppers are given as much as 50- to 70-percent discounts on prices of selected items.
