COMPOSTELA Mayor-elect Joel Quiño sought a temporary restraining order against the suspension order on his proclamation issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Quiño's lawyer Guiller Ceniza will file a petition for certiorari and prohibition before the Supreme Court against the Comelec's suspension order.
The order barred the mayor-elect and several of his councilors from assuming their seats.
Respondents to the petition are the Comelec, Comelec Commissioner Nicodemo Ferrer and Regional Director Peter Noval of the Department of Interior and Local Governments in Central Visayas (DILG-7). Noval is currently caretaker mayor of Compostela.
The Comelec suspension order followed a petition filed by former mayor Ritchie Wagas who contested Quiño's victory in the May 10 elections.
Noval previously said he will choose 13 department heads to assume as interim municipal councilors in order to draw up Compostela's budget. Correspondent Candeze R. Mongaya
Non-renewal
ABOUT 30 contractual employees won't be renewed by Cebu City Hall for being Absent Without Leave (AWOL) for more than 30 days.
City Hall's Human Resource Department chief Mary Ann Suson said these employees weren't renewed for this month and September since they failed in their performance evaluation.
Another 50 employees were also advised to undergo counseling for tardiness and other minor performance problems. There are about 3,000 casual employees at the City hall.
Suson said 98 percent of the casual employees were already renewed while two percent are still being reviewed since they transferred to other departments. Reporter Fe Marie D. Dumaboc
Festival aid
THE Cebu City government will allocate half a million pesos in assistance to Daanbantayan town despite protests of the Capitol.
But the amount can?t be released before the Haladaya festival tomorrow since papers still have to be processed, Mayor Michael Rama told reporters.
He said he felt insulted by Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia's admonition that the city government prioritize its residents first before giving aid to towns in the province.
?The Capitol gave aid to Iloilo province which was hit by a calamity...The city government would like to show that Cebu City will continue with its 'Big Brother' program,? Rama said.

Still safe for extraction
THE Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) said it is still safe for a water supplier to extract water in barangay Pardo, Cebu City.
MCWD General Manager Ernie Delco told the Cebu City Council that the area is not serviced by the district.
He said the well being pumped by the Neptune Water Supply firm is 400 meters away from the MCWD wells.
The district said they are requiring the supplier to monitor and submit data on the extraction rate and the pump water level on their well.
Delco also said Neptune should agree to regular or spot monitoring of its well by the city or MCWD and not interfere with the district's existing service area. Reporter Fe Marie D. Dumaboc
