IN choosing to back presidentiable Sen. Manny Villar, former mayor Alvin Garcia said their support will cover only Cebu City and not Cebu province in light of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia's support to administration candidate Gilbert Teodoro.
In an interview Garcia said the opposition Kugi Uswag Sugbo (Kusug) will support Villar but may adopt a mixed lineup of senatorial candidates including former Cebu governor Lito Osmeña.
The former mayor also refuted Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña's claim that Kusug demanded P68 million in exchange for supporting Villar.
?Assuming there was some discussion, how would he know? No party would admit to it,? Garcia said.
The former mayor said Villar didn't have any local lineup here and the senator may only allocate funds for watchers in order to cut expenses.
?I think Villar can give us funds but at this stage, the local campaign period has yet to start,? Garcia said.
Meanwhile, presidential aspirant Richard Gordon and running mate Bayani F. Fernando presented their platform of governance in a candidates' dialogue with students at the University of San Carlos Talamban campus.
The two candidates pledged to increase productivity, reducing politicking among institutions and increasing the salaries of teachers.
Gordon also pledged to sustain tourism promotions and strong infrastructure and entrepreneurship programs.
Gordon and Fernando pointed to their records as local officials and urged students to look at the track records of candidates when making their choices.
?Cebuanos are smart people. The Cebuanos will not be easily bribed and convinced by those ?ridiculous ads??, he said.
Gordon also mentioned plans to create an Islamic Cultural Museum and appoint a Muslim judge in the Supreme Court. The dialogue was organized by the Carolinian Political Science Society, the Arts of Sciences Division and the University of San Carlos.
