USS Fitzgerald in Manila for Apec security

The US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class, guided missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) is in Manila for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit.

The vessel, which arrived on Monday, just finished its routine patrol in the South China Sea.

The guided missile destroyer is on a five-day support mission other than its routine patrol in the 7th Fleet area of operations, the US Embassy in Manila said in a statement.

The 7th Fleet is based in Yokosuka, Japan.

The Apec summit this week will be attended by several world leaders including US President Barack Obama.
