Japan sends aid to ‘Yolanda’ victims

MANILA, Philippines – The Japanese government extended relief supplies to aid the victims of the world’s worst typhoon that slammed the Visayas.
The assistance worth 60 million yen (approximately 607,000 US dollars) included plastic sheets for shelters, sleeping pads, and other essential commodities to ease the plight of the survivors.
Tokyo also dispatched the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Medical Team to the affected areas in the Visayas to help in the damage assessment. Two JICA experts from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also joined the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) team to coordinate with international donors.
On November 12, the Japanese government also announced the provision of emergency grant aid of 10 million US dollars through international organizations.
