Anwar cites ‘Ninoy’ Aquino’s martyrdom

MANILA, Philippines—Former Malaysian deputy prime minister and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has joined the Filipino people in their commemoration of the 30^th anniversary of former Sen. Benigno ‘‘Ninoy’’ Aquino Jr.’s assassination on August 21.

Below is the full text of Anwar’s emailed statement:

‘‘We join the people of the Philippines in commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Ninoy’s assassination in solemn remembrance of the loss of such a great hero.

‘‘Ninoy’s martyrdom must not be seen as a sacrifice only for the Philippines but for all nations who cherish justice, freedom and democracy.’’
