Pinoys rock SF’s iconic Union Square for PH Independence Day

SAN FRANCISCO–Allan Pineda, better known as Apl.de.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas, headlined the free concert at Union Square to commemorate the 115th Philippine Independence.

The Grammy Award winner had everyone, young and old, men, women and kids, clapping, jumping and having a real good time in the heart of San Francisco.

Huge crowds enjoyed the daylong celebration, which showcased entrepreneurs, food booths, performing artists and martial arts to highlight “the Legacy of Filipino Creativity, Talent and Ingenuity.”

A business seminar before Saturday’s event dubbed “Philippine Business and Tech Expo and Conference” was held at the Philippine Center on 447 Sutter Street, San Francisco, to update prospective investors on the country’s current economic successes and upgraded forecasts.

“Latitude-Longtitude Emerging Markets” focused on the Philippines as Asia’s rising tiger, and a Gateway to ASEAN, with topics ranging from its pathway to current successes, emerging industries, rise of start-ups, social enterprise/sustainability and case studies of real companies who are innovating and benefitting from the wave of change in the country.

This community-led celebration is a collaborative effort by the Filipino American Community leaders from the San Francisco Bay Area with the support of the Philippine Consulate General. Presenting sponsor of this year’s celebration is Western Union.
