3 Taiwanese tourists drown as boat capsizes off Boracay Island

ILOILO CITY, Philippines—Three Taiwanese tourists, including a two-year-old girl, drowned on Wednesday afternoon when a motor boat carrying 30 tourists capsized near Boracay Island, Aklan, according to initial  police reports.

Senior Inspector Joeffer Cabural, chief of the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center, said Taiwanese tourists were on an island-hopping tour when the boat was hit by strong winds and capsized between Sitio (subvillage) Tambisa-an in Barangay (village) Manoc-Manoc in Boracay and Crocodile Island.

The victims were taken to the Baptist Hospital in Malay town on the mainland.

As of this posting, investigators were gathering more information including the identities of the fatalities and the survivors.
