PH pledges P10M to UN relief fund
The Philippines has pledged to contribute $200,000, or about P10 million, to the United Nations’ Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said during a pledging event on Dec. 8.
He lauded CERF for helping the Philippines when it was devastated by Typhoon “Haiyan” and was hit by the terrorist siege of Marawi.
The Philippines was recently selected as a pilot for the implementation of CERF Anticipatory Action for Tropical Cyclone with an allotment of $7.5 million.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said 2021 had been one of the most difficult years for humanitarian actors, but CERF had stepped up to the challenge. —TINA G. SANTOS
