22 Filipinos return to PH from Afghanistan — DFA

MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-two Filipinos who fled from Afghanistan have arrived in the Philippines, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported on Wednesday, adding that two others were recently evacuated from Kabul.

The 22 Filipinos arrived from London and are currently under quarantine, the DFA said in a situation bulletin.

“The DFA confirms that 2 more Filipinos, both part of the Doctors Without Borders organization, were evacuated from Kabul and are now in Dushanbe,” it added.

The latest confirmed evacuees brought down the estimated number of Filipinos in Afghanistan to 24, according to the DFA.

Of the 24, 16 Filipinos are requesting repatriation either from their respective companies or the Philippine government.

So far, 185 Filipinos were able to leave Afghanistan since the Taliban took over the country’s capital.

The DFA said it “continues to work towards the immediate evacuation of the remaining Filipinos in Afghanistan.”

“The Philippine embassies and consulates-general across the globe continue to assist and closely monitor the status of Filipinos who have been evacuated from Kabul,” the DFA added.
