Filipino drowns after saving friend in Canada

MANILA, Philippines — A Filipino drowned after saving the life of a friend in Canada, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported Monday.

Citing reports from Consul General to Calgary Zaldy Patron, DFA said the Filipino was with his friends in Lake Snye in Fort McMurray, Alberta, last August 23 when the incident happened.

The Consulate General is now coordinating with Canadian authorities and the family of the Filipino for the repatriation of his remains.

The Consulate General also extended its condolences and expressed readiness to provide appropriate assistance to his family.
