Malaysia summons PH envoy over Binay’s Sabah claim

KOTA KINABALU — The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called a senior Philippine envoy over Vice President Jejomar Binay’s statement that he would be pursuing its territorial claim over Sabah.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it had called in the Embassy’s Charge d’ Affairs Maria Antonina M Mendoza-Oblena over Binay’s remarks.

“The Malaysian government reiterates its position that it does not recognize and will not entertain any claims by any party on Sabah,” Wisma Putra said.

It said that Sabah has been recognized by the United Nations (UN) and international community as part of Malaysia since formation of the Federation on September 16, 1963.
