Another OFW in Saudi with MERS-CoV—DFA
MANILA, Philippines — An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Saudi Arabia has tested positive for the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus (MERS-CoV), Radyo Inquirer 990AM reported Thursday.
The report said the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) had confirmed that a 41-year old X-ray technician was infected with MERS-CoV and had been confined at the intensive care unit of a hospital in Riyadh.
DFA spokesman Charles Jose said the OFW had direct exposure to MERS-CoV patients.
On March 6, the DFA said that three OFWs working as health care personnel in various hospitals in Saudi Arabia had tested positive for the dreaded virus.
The latest case brings to four the number of Filipinos in Saudi Arabia with MERS-CoV.
The four OFWS are among the 15 new cases reported by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health.
