Singapore President honors Rizal

MANILA, Philippines—Singapore  President Tony Tan Keng Yam and his state delegation on Thursday offered a wreath in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Luneta Park in Manila. The wreath-laying ceremony was witnessed by Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and other Manila officials.

Tan, who is in a four-day state visit to the Philippines, will then proceed to Malacañang for a state luncheon with President Benigno Aquino III.

Tan will discuss with Aquino matters of mutual concerns, including cooperative activities in defense, trade, and investment and the Filipino community in Singapore among others.

Tan and his official delegation will also fly to Basey town in Samar to provide further assistance to the survivors of Super Typhoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan).

This is the first state visit of the Singaporean President to the Philippines.
