THE Mandaue City council has passed an ordinance declaring the month of July of every year as Persons with Disability (PWD) Month.
The ordinance aims to honor the physically challenged individuals in the city.
Louella Cabanero, vice chairperson of the Cultural, Historical, Sports and Tourism (CHEST) Foundation said many PWDs have extraordinary talents, and proved that they do what normal people can.
“We have talented and successful PWDs who serve as inspiration to all,” she said.
As part of the Mandaue fiesta celebration, the committee on entertainment has decided to include a program that will showcase the talents of PWDs in the city though a sports exhibition.
She encouraged all PWDs to participate.
She said the city plans to conduct the program every year to prove to the public that PWDs are also capable of engaging in sports activities. She said there are PWDs who are successful in various fields like cooking, painting and music.
This is not only for the Mandauehanons but for everyone, she said.
Early this month, the Mandaue City government inaugurated a P2.3 million facility for PWDs and for infants and women in the compound of the City Social Welfare Services. Correspondent Princess Kathleene Gabunales
