Typhoon Nari leaves 6 dead, 7 missing in Vietnam

HANOI, Vietnam  — Typhoon Nari has killed six people in Vietnam and left seven others missing.

The national floods and storms control department says the typhoon killed three people and left two missing in Quang Nam province after slamming into Vietnam’s central coast early Tuesday. It had killed 13 people in the Philippines over the weekend.

Quang Binh province disaster official Ngo Duc Song said Wednesday that flash floods killed three people and left two others missing in the province. He said the floods submerged 10,000 homes, many of them up to 2 meters (6.5 feet) under water, and left four villages isolated.

In the neighboring province of Ha Tinh, authorities are searching for three people missing in the floods.

The storm weakened to a tropical depression after making landfall in Vietnam.
