MANILA, Philippines -The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) filed before the Manila Prosecutors Office a criminal complaint against two Bangladeshi nationals for alleged extortion.

Facing a case for robbery with intimidation of persons are Mohiuddin Ahmed Swapan and Mohamed Wasim both Bangladeshi and residents of 946 San Andres St., Malate, Manila.

The case stemmed from a complaint by Bangladeshi businessman, Anwar Hossain, who said that the two were harassing and threatening him.

Hossain said he supplied the suspects with assorted garments worth P749,486.00 but the P200,000 check that the two had paid bounced.

He said when he informed the two about the bouncing check and demanded payment, Swapan and Wasim threatened to kill him. Hossain said Wasim even demanded P200,000 from him in exchange for his life and safety.

When Wasim instructed Hossain to meet him on May 31 at MEHFIL Restaurant on San Andres Street, Malate, Manila, he sought the NBI’s help and an entrapment operation was set up that led to the arrest of the two.

They are currently detained at the NBI detention in Manila.
