MANILA, Philippines — No Filipino was reported hurt so far in the deadly tornado that ripped through the US Midwest, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Tuesday.
“The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago reported that so far, there are no Filipino casualties in the tornadoes that wreaked havoc in Oklahoma and other Midwest cities in the US. The consulate is in touch with the Philippine community, as well as local authorities in the affected areas,” DFA spokesperson Raul Hernandez said in a news briefing.
“To ensure that the 100,000 Filipinos in the affected areas are all accounted for, Consul General Leo Herrera-Lim said the consulate would continue to monitor the situation, as more bad weather is expected in the US Midwest,” Hernandez said.
He said the Philippine government was prepared to provide assistance to Filipinos if necessary.
