Indon woman rescued from abusive Filipino boyfriend

MATANAO, Davao del Sur – An Indonesian woman and her three children were rescued by police-backed social welfare officers from her allegedly abusive Filipino boyfriend here on Friday.

Senior Inspector Charlie Merca, Matanao police chief, identified the Indonesian as Salbiah Yusof, 30.

He said investigation showed the woman arrived in this town with her common-law husband Doming Danion from Indonesia about eight months ago.

Since then, Merca said, Danion, whom the woman met in her country, had had been repeatedly abusing her physically.

Neighbors took pity on her and informed the police, he said.

Merca said Danion was not around during the rescue operation.

The Indonesian woman, who had an expired passport, and her three children have been turned over to the Indonesian Consulate in Davao City.

He said the police were waiting for the woman’s formal statement before they file a complaint against Danion in the prosecutor’s office.
