US Embassy to close on Thursday

MANILA, Philippines – The US Embassy in Manila and its affiliated offices will be closed to the public on Thursday, November 22, in observance of Thanksgiving Day, an American holiday.

In a statement, the US Embassy said te United States celebrates Thanksgiving Day on the fourth Thursday of November each year.

“The ‘First Thanksgiving’ in the US is traditionally traced to the post-harvest feast by the American settlers and Native American neighbors in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1621,” the statement said.

“American families traditionally spend this holiday by getting together and sharing a special a meal featuring roasted turkey.”

It added that the period from Thanksgiving Day until New Year’s Day is often called the “holiday season” in America.

The embassy and its affiliated offices will resume services on Friday.
