Filipino American wounded in Colorado shooting
MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday said the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco confirmed that a Filipino American was one of those injured when a deranged suspect opened fire and killed 12 people inside a movie house in Aurora, Denver, Colorado, on Friday.
Raul Hernandez, DFA spokesperson, in a text message to INQUIRER.net, said Ryan Lumba, a Filipino American, had been admitted at the University of Colorado Hospital. He added “no specific information could be released.”
He said as soon as the Consulate contacts the family members of the victim, it would offer the assistance necessary.
The incident happened during the premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the newest installment of director Christopher Nolan’s trilogy about comic-book super-hero Batman.
The suspect, 24-year-old local resident James Holmes, was nabbed outside the theater a few minutes after the massacre. Holmes reportedly dyed his hair red and called himself “The Joker,” who is one of Batman’s enemies in several comic-book and film editions.
