Science and Technology Advisory Council-Silicon Valley partners with US State Department

PALO ALTO, California – The Science and Technology Advisory Council, Silicon Valley (“STAC” or “STAC-SV”) announced it has joined the US State Department’s Global Entrepreneurship Program (“GEP”) as an official partner. The alliance will both elevate GEP’s efforts to spur entrepreneurship around the world and strengthen STAC’s private sector leadership position in fostering science and technology entrepreneurial growth in the Philippines.

STAC-GEP partnership was forged during President Benigno Aquino III’s recent meeting with President Barrack Obama. Following a lunch meeting  hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in connection with Aquino’s visit, STAC’s president Christina Laskowski talked with the State Department’s special representative for commercial and business affairs Lorraine Hariton, who oversees the GEP.

The GEP is a welcome addition to STAC’s existing partner ecosystem which includes leading Filipino technology firms — Novare Technologies, Smart  Communications and Kickstart Ventures, Inc. (a subsidiary of Globe Telecom, Inc.) which are major sponsors of its ON3 program; and a healthy roster of community partners that includes Wireless Wings, ideaspace, TechTalks.ph led by tech evangelist Tina Amper, roofcamp founded by entrepreneur Jay Fajardo, web geek, ICCP Ventures, University of the Philippines, MINT College, Brokenshire College, ICT Davao, CebuinIT, NICP as well as Philippine government institutions, such as the departments of trade and industry, of science and technology, and of foreign affairs.

“We are delighted to have STAC as a partner in our efforts to advance entrepreneurship in emerging markets,” Hariton said.
