MANILA, Philippines – Nine Overseas Filipino workers will be coming home on Independence Day, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced in a statement Monday.

The nine OFWs, seven freed from the Kafferseuseh Immigration Center and two from Aleppo, are expected to arrive Tuesday on Emirates flight EK 334. The Philippine Embassy in Damascus has secured their exit visas.

Strife-torn Syria has been under crisis alert level 4 since December 2011. As of Monday, 1,639 OFWs have been repatriated from Syria. Fatima Reyes
