San Fernando barangay gets medical equipment

A barangay health center in San Fernando town, southern Cebu received a donation of new medical equipment and supplies from Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI).

The cement factory wanted to address the health needs of its host, barangay South Poblacion.

This is the second time since 2005 that TCPI and its materials supplier, Solid Earth Development Corp. (SEDC), provided the community with the same supplies, said Gines Boltron, SEDC community relations head.

Boltron said a study conducted by his team revealed that the South Poblacion health center, which has 36 health workers, lacks essential apparatus like nebulizers and sphygmomanometers.

This prompted the barangay council of South Poblacion to adopt a resolution asking TCPI and SEDC for assistance.

The two Taiheiyo-managed companies turned over two sets of nebulizers, eight weighing scales for infants and adults, 20 thermometers, six sets of sphygmomanometer-stethoscopes and 20 pieces of penlights.

Esther Cola and Emylita Ortega, senior managers for Administration and Human Resources for TCPI and SEDC, respectively, turned over the items to the barangay officials headed by barangay captain Vicente Bacalla and health committee chairperson Belinda Cosca at the health center.

Barangay health workers witnessed the turnover.
